Hello, I’m Callum Pert.  I am a young and enthusiastic bagpiper, based on the Gold Coast, with 11 years playing experience.  My passion is to both honour the tradition of bagpiping while also approaching the art with a youthful energy and respect that I hope will help to impart its magic to younger generations.

As a musician and of Scottish heritage myself, I see my roles as a piper, band member, and bagpipe tutor as playing custodian to what is the time-honoured tradition of piping, and introducing its unique and characteristic artform to other young people.  I am currently studying at University and am a member of the Gold Coast Tweed Pipes and Drums band, having started learning the pipes at age 11.

After initially learning the bagpipes through my father’s Scottish connections with the St Andrew’s Society on the Gold Coast, I have been motivated to develop and continue my love of bagpiping over the years through the sense of community, fun, and competition that comes with playing for others, and belonging to a band.

Through performing and competing; sharing the experience of listening to one of history’s most stirring reed instruments; and teaching others to play; I am able to draw on my musical, performance, and tutoring skills.

My goal is to translate the tradition of bagpiping to the contemporary setting –  whether that is playing at events and ceremonies, or teaching others to play.  As one of the few young bagpipers in the region, I am somewhat uniquely placed to offer an energetic yet experienced and dedicated approach to bagpiping, whatever your needs, or knowledge level.
